Roughly 50 minutes from Malaga airport and 1 hour from Granada airport, Marina Del Este lies round the headland from La Herradura, the principal tourist town (though very Spanish in feel and unspoilt) on a part of the southern coast of Andalucia, known as the Costa Tropical, in the province of Granada.
The nearest town is Almunecar 4 miles to the east. Nerja (with its famous caves) is 7 miles to the west. Marina Del Este is located on the exclusive headland of the Punta De La Mona, voted the sixth most desirable real estate address in Spain.
The Costa Tropical runs from Nerja to Motril and is characterised by rugged cliffs falling to the sea and a sub-tropical climate making it an all year resort with an average of 18C in the winter and 28C in the summer. The area is the most beautiful and sunniest in Spain.
La Herradura is one of the few remaining unspoilt villages on the South Coast that can offer a truly Spanish experience in a tranquil environment. La Herradura derives its name from "The Horseshoe". The bay is formed by two headlands, The Cerro Gordo and The Punta Del La Mona. These are interposed by a mile of beach. The town is situated on the beach road with many outside bars and restaurants. Water sports, tennis, walking, sailing, horse riding and hang gliding are some of the many activities that are available. There are three golf courses within easy reach, Anorretta, Baviera and Los Moriscos. There is also skiing on the Sierra Nevada in the winter, which is close to Granada and is approximately a 1 ½ hour drive. It is said that you can ski in the morning and sun bath here in the afternoon.
Granada is approximately a one hour drive and is worth a vist for the superb Alhambra Palace and Moorish quarter.
